Word Counter
Paste or type any text and get an instant count of words, characters, sentences and paragraphs - plus reading and speaking time. Everything runs in your browser.
Why writers keep a word counter open
Hit exact limits
Meta descriptions, captions, ads and essay prompts all have word budgets. Check the count as you write instead of trimming afterward.
Tighten your drafts
Watching the paragraph count grow faster than the word count is a quick way to spot sections that ramble.
Plan reading time
Reading and speaking estimates help you match a piece to its purpose - a quick tip post reads very differently from a deep guide.
Finished counting? The AI Humanizer can help your draft read more naturally, and the AI Detector shows how it analyzes text.
Word counter questions
How does the word counter calculate words?
Words are counted as blocks of text separated by spaces or line breaks. Punctuation attached to a word counts as part of that word, and an empty box counts as zero words.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The counter runs entirely in your browser - your text is never sent to a server, stored, or logged.
How is reading time estimated?
Reading time uses an average silent-reading speed of 200 words per minute, and speaking time uses about 130 words per minute. Both are estimates - your actual speed depends on the material.
