Character Counter
See exactly how many characters, letters, digits, punctuation marks and lines your text contains - the numbers platforms like X, Instagram and form fields actually limit. Everything runs in your browser.
Character limits are everywhere
Social posts
Post captions, bios and replies all enforce character caps. The "no spaces" count is the number most platforms enforce.
Meta tags
Title tags and meta descriptions get truncated in search results at pixel widths that usually land near 60 and 155 characters.
Forms & profiles
Application fields, product listings and profile sections often cap at odd limits like 500 or 2,000 characters. Check before you paste.
Working with whole words instead? The Word Counter tracks words, sentences and reading time for the same text.
Character counter questions
What is the difference between characters with and without spaces?
Characters with spaces counts every character in the text, including spaces and line breaks. Characters without spaces excludes whitespace - that's the number most social platforms and form limits actually enforce.
Does the character counter store my text?
No. All counting happens locally in your browser. The text you paste is never transmitted, saved, or logged.
How are letters, digits and punctuation counted?
Letters counts alphabetic characters, digits counts numbers 0-9, and punctuation counts common punctuation marks and symbols. Whitespace counts spaces, tabs and line breaks. Together the categories equal the total character count.
